How to WRITE about YOUR Skills in an Impressive Way

It can be very difficult knowing HOW to WRITE about your skills in an impressive way in your resume (or letter of application).

Note the use of active verbs in the following examples, if you get stuck for words a list of verbs is supplied here.

Be HONEST when writing statements about yourself, if you say you are ‘excellent’ at something you might have to prove it in a job interview!

The following will give you ideas for the work experience, part time work and volunteer section of your resume.

retail /hospitality/customer service skills

There are two very important things to remember when making your statements:

  • First avoid (if possible) starting sentences with “I have” or using “my” – this is unnecessary and clutters your work.
  • Second QUANTIFY (when you can) why you have made a particular statement.

AVOID statements like: “I have excellent customer service abilities

HAVE statements like: “Excellent and efficient customer service abilities which my supervisor at IGA will be happy to talk to you about”
